Why can’t we have Sport Cars on Indian Roads?
As we all know that India is a developing country, hence the demand for homegrown sport cars isn’t so hot, and therefore there isn’t any supply. Making of a sport cars requires a lot of testing and development, and this eventually means investment, and the car manufacturers we have in India like Tata, Mahindra and Force are low-scaled. Only DC has managed to launch a sport Car, Avanti, whose sale was unfortunately very less.
Are there any other reasons why Indian Roads don’t have any sport cars?
Yes!!! There are quite a few more reasons behind this. For being a sports car the one of the most important thing is its body design. In order to run at higher speed its body design should be aerodynamic but the condition of Indian Roads(speed breakers, pits, etc) do not allow the manufacturers to build such cars with low ground clearance. A supercar in motion is the practical demonstration of a number of laws of physics being tested to the extreme. Secondly, most of the high profile accidents we saw in the recent months, on Indian roads, involved sport cars. This might be the reason too, why we can rarely see any sport cars on Indian Roads.
Is it the cars that are responsible or the people who are driving them?
In India, its normal to see people driving while intoxicated, somehow they get home in one piece. But driving sport cars under the influence of any substance can transform them into lethal weapons. They get up to high speeds very quickly, are more sensitive to driver inputs and combined with a number of other factors can result in tragedy.
Speed by itself don’t harm anybody or it isn’t dangerous. And sport cars are build for high speeds. People have the habit of increasing the speed of the vehicle they are driving but they forget the fact that higher the speed of the car, higher is that braking distance, although if it is a super car. This is not only the problem. The main problem lies on the two wheelers or pedestrians of India, who aint used to such high speeds. If they see the car at a distance, they cannot fathom how quickly it will get to them.
SPORT CARS that tried to taste Indian Roads!
- PORSCHE 911 TURBO: Car hydroplaned in a puddle of water and hit the divider. Driver was safe.

- LAMBORGHINI MURCIELAGO

- BUGATTI VEYRON: A 408.6 kmph rolling beast surrendered to a poorly constructed speed breaker.

- LAMBORGHINI GALLARDO: High Speed + No Seat Belt = Sure Death of both(Car and its Driver)

And there are many more…….
